First Minister the Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM opens the Proper Welsh Dairy in Whitland.
The Proper Welsh Milk Company dairy, the first to be built in Wales for over 75 years, will process and bottle up to 10 million litres of milk each year.
Building this dairy in Carmarthenshire will dramatically reduce the amount of miles the milk travels, reducing the impact on the environment. The milk is sourced from local farms and will reach Welsh stores within 24 hours of collection from the 26 member farms.
The First Minister said:
“This new plant is a great step forward for both Carmarthenshire and the Welsh dairy industry. It is a boost for jobs and will cut the journey times and mileage of getting milk to Welsh stores and consumers. The dairy will safeguard milk outlets for dairy farmers in the surrounding area. “This is Welsh milk being produced and bottled here in Wales for Welsh consumers and that has to be good news for all. The creamery already has a number of contracts with Welsh stores and I wish it all the best for the future.” |
